Sex is something that can be enjoyed relatively freely across most of the Western world, but there are some countries where your kinks, fetishes and sexual habits could get you in trouble with the law.
Did you know, for instance, that sex with someone of the same gender is punishable by death in some countries? Here are BLATANT's pick of some of the best – and worst – nations for getting it on.
The Worst
SAUDI ARABIA
Vigilante punishments are common against adulterers in this Kingdom. The Islamic concept of Zina forbids extramarital sex, with the punishment being either 100 lashes or execution by stoning.
BRUNEI
This South-east Asian sultanate imposed Islamic sharia laws against adultery in 2014, with the punishment being stoning. Prostitution is illegal and unregulated and homosexual acts are also punishable by death.
IRAN
Repeat offenders of the country’s hard-line sharia law face the death penalty. Homosexual acts warrant capital punishment and repeat offenders of prostitution face death by stoning.
...Slightly Better
THE USA
A 2003 Supreme Court ruling finally legalised homosexual sex across the US. Despite this, Adultery laws still technically remain in 21 US states. In South Carolina, adultery is punishable by a $500 fine.
Sexually Liberated
SPAIN
Nudism is protected by Spanish constitutional rights and gay sex has been legal since the fall of Dictator Franco’s government in the 70s. A 2015 survey revealed almost 40 per cent of Spaniards are likely to cheat on their spouse.
CZECH REPUBLIC
The sexually liberated Czechs are some of the world’s most tolerant towards homosexual sex and adultery, with an annual sex survey showing 41 per cent of Czech men considering extra-marital affairs “natural”. Prostitution is legal and regulated, making it safer for sex workers.
